Athens — as much as we’ve seen her (and it’s a she) — has been a love/hate experience for these travelling hobos. The glorious weather has translated into sunburns and heat-related sluggishness, the beautiful winding streets are also unmarked and oh-so easy to get lost within, and while some things have been cheap (yesterday, all the monuments and archeological sites were free for ‘Environmental Day’) we’ve definitely had a few unexpected expenses come our way.

What has undoubtedly been great, though, is the fact that we’ve met some fantastic people here. Many a laugh was shared a few nights ago when about 9 or 10 of us from Canada, Australia, Turkey and England got together, drank, and played poker. And — drumroll please — I, Wendy Gillis, won the poker tournament for a grand total of 9 euros. Woo!

Next up: Santorini for a few nights by ourselves, then for a night with the awesome Canadian couple we’ve tricked into befriending us.
