Hungary Hungary Hippos…

After a brief bout of Luke-related food poisoning (damn gyros…) that delayed our departure from Belgrade by a day, Wendy and I are officially in Budapest. We’re staying with yet another graphic designer named Llazlo who lives in Central Pest. I’m actually typing this post while his friendly, but non-English speaking roommate goes through his morning routine… There’s been some communication via an online English to Hungarian translating website, as Hungarian is a very difficult language to wrap one’s tongue around. Budapest seems like an exciting city, and finding a local host through couchsurfing.com is always a plus. I think Wendy and I are going to check out Buda’s ancient castle and the labyrinth of tunnels beneath it today, wander through the streets and come back to Llazlo’s to cook some traditional Hungarian food and then head out with some of his friends for a night on the town. It should be a good day. We’ll probably stay here until at least the 21st or so, as there’s a cool event on the 20th called ‘Night at the Museums.’ The name is fairly self-explanatory. Anyway, a big thanks goes out to Isidora in Belgrade. Whether she was cooking us dinner, talking to us about Balkan history, showing us what to do in Belgrade, letting us walk her two wonderful dogs, introducing us to her friends (Ana, Vanya, Yana and Ivana… you were all awesome), taking us to her photoshoot or taking care of me when I got sick, she was a fantastic, gracious and exciting host. We’ll miss her. -Luke
